Community Involvement

Urgent Doc feels privileged and a sense of responsibility to support the community.  There are many causes to support, and whatever we do never seems to be enough.  However, if we can contribute part of our blessings toward helping and enriching lives in our community, we have been blessed as well.   We try to be diverse in areas of our support.  Here are a sampling of our past and current involvements.

Shots for Toys
2009 is our second year to do this.  We were able to raise more than $7000.00 in 2008, and we hope to have our drive in November since we had to cancel our scheduled October drive, due to the CDC halting regular flu shots production.  Our Shot for Toys drive will be October the 10th in the Sam’s Club parking lot from 10 am to 4 pm.  Every cent of the $20 goes to toys to needy children in Angelina County.

Angelina Benefit Rodeo
We have co-sponsored the rodeo since 2008, and we will continue to do so.  It is great family entertainment and supports our State School.

Angelina Arts Alliance
We began supporting AAA in 2007. We are co-sponsoring “Parsons Dance” this year, which shows November the 1st, 2009 in the Temple Theater.  This is another great family event.

George Strait Team Roping Classic
We sponsored Brett Gould at the GSTRC in 2009.  He has been to the NFR 4 times and he roped with Joe Beaver to help him get his 3rd all around world title in 2000 from $70,000 behind.  Brett went from 16th to 4th in the world.

Various other community activities
There are other smaller community organizations we have helped on a smaller scale.  We wish we could help more in larger numbers, but as with most people, we are restrained by a budget.

Many charities are helped throughout the year, individuals and organizations.

Lufkin/Angelina Chamber of Commerce
We are part of the chamber and fully support its efforts in making Angelina County a great place to live.
